Adventist Health Glendale Achieves Elite National Status with 20th Straight “A” for Patient Safety

Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade A

On Friday, November 15, Adventist Health Glendale was awarded an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for the 20th consecutive time by The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit upholding the standard of excellence in patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers.

This achievement highlights Adventist Health Glendale as one of only 42 hospitals nationwide to earn an “A” Grade continuously in since 2015. Just six other California-based hospitals have earned as many straight “A’s”.

“Patient Safety is a priority woven into every clinical, professional, and operational facet of our medical center,” shared Alice Issai, president of the Adventist Health Glendale & Simi Valley Service Area. “Our patients and community entrust us to deliver world-class care. Extending our streak to twenty consecutive ‘A’ ratings is indicative of our long-standing commitment to providing safe, reliable, compassionate care.”

The Leapfrog Group assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to general hospitals nationwide based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

Of the 95 Los Angeles-area hospitals evaluated during the Fall 2024 cycle, only 30 earned an “A” rating. Adventist Health Glendale is the only hospital in its service area with an active “A” grade. Keck USC and UCLA Ronald Reagan are the only other “A-rated” providers near us – and neither come close to matching our winning streak.

“Everyone who works and volunteers at Adventist Health Glendale should take immense pride in this accomplishment,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I commend Adventist Health Glendale for its unwavering dedication to prioritizing patients which is evident in their consistent achievement of an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade for the past nine years.”

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, injuries and infections that can lead to harm or even death. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“As we celebrate this milestone together, let us be reminded of our pledge to prioritize every patient’s safety in the big and small moments we encounter each day. Our collective commitment to this goal is what keeps us a top-tier provider, and why patients entrust us to deliver high-quality care,” added Issai. “Congratulations to our entire team – every associate, nurse, and physician. May we continue to be leaders in healthcare as we inspire health, wholeness and hope.”
